Rev. Shad Groverland was born and raised in Unity, learning Unity principles from his parents Rev. Jack and Norma Groverland. His passion for music production was ignited while serving in his parents’ church, which led him to a 25-year career in sound production & management in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. He was then called into ministry and attended the Unity Urban Ministerial School, receiving his ordination in 2016. He served at Unity of Las Vegas for five years before returning home to Unity of Boulder in Colorado, where he co-ministered with his sister, Syntysche, and father, Jack. He was hired at Unity Worldwide Ministries as Executive Director in October 2020. January, 2023 saw Rev. Shad be elevated to the title of President/CEO at UWM.
Rev. Shad’s Unity experience is vast and long-term. He has served as youth director, board trustee, youth camp counselor, youth and family team leader, and Next Generation Unity minister advisor. In 2018, he was appointed to the UWM Board of Trustees, and served as Secretary of the Board in 2019 and 2020. During his tenure on the board, Shad served on multiple teams focused on shaping the future of the Unity Movement and has continued this legacy of revitalization into his current position as President/CEO. His sole purpose in this role is to support and equip Unity ministries and leaders to thrive and grow.
Shad & Erinna while visiting ministries they noticed a need for getting clear on a direction in ministry throughout Unity. Together they created a presentation to share as a workshop to ministries. Since 2022 Rev. Shad and Erinna will have led 34 workshops nationwide. Over 1000 Unity leaders representing 275+ Unity ministries have attended the workshop. The workshop has shown to be very meaningful & successful for ministries with 100% feedback from ministries that attended the workshop. They reported that it has created connection & commitment from their board, leaders, teachers, staff and volunteers. Since the workshop their ministry has grown. With continued support and requests from the field of ministry Rev. Shad & Erinna continue with the workshop as the year of 2024 is completely booked. There is already have a waiting list for 2025. In 2023 Rev. Shad and his wife Erinna brought the PoFM workshop to 24 ministries across the continental United States and Hawaii. This travel does come as an expense to the organization, as outlined below, and can be better understood with these three points of clarification.
1st As part of the President/CEO position, Rev. Shad is expected to travel and visit Unity ministries throughout the year and has an Executive Travel budget designated for that. With the creation of this workshop, an innovative way was developed for him to not only make those visits, but to also create new areas of benefit for the ministries and the organization itself. These benefits led to an increase in requests for the workshop, creating an overage in travel expenses for the requests to be met.
2nd The PoFM workshop is also a fundraiser for the host ministry and throughout 2023, the majority of the registration fees were donated back to each of those ministries. Those financial totals are also below.
3rd This workshop has served as an effective way for UWM to gather ministries together, engage in dialogue, get valuable feedback, and disseminate useful tools and information that ministries can use to help them thrive and grow.
